Do you use nutrition, herbs and natural remedies to heal your body? Have you ever wondered why you couldn't heal your teeth the same way? You can. There is nothing mysterious or mystical about naturally strengthening teeth and restoring tooth enamel. Yet, despite the renaissance of information about other aspects of natural healing, natural dental care is a subject that has not been much discussed. This is partly because to talk about natural dental enamel growth or healing of cavities is heresy against the official dental establishment. And, it is partly because when people believe there is no solution to a problem, they don't bother to look for one. "All Natural Dental Remedies: Herbs and Home Remedies to Heal Your Teeth & Naturally Restore Tooth Enamel" gives you practical information about nutrition and specific herbal and mineral therapies, most of them from folk medicine, to heal the teeth and gums. These are common, inexpensive things anyone can get their hands on and try. The purpose of this little book is not to make an argument for alternative dentistry or against conventional dentistry; nor is it to persuade anyone that one way of doing things is superior to another. It simply presents practical information about the health and healing of the teeth and gums through nutrition, herbs, minerals and other alternative remedies.

Because of increasing antibiotic resistance, stronger antibiotics are reserved for serious active infection, paving the way for a greater use of herbal antibiotics. This book helps dentists in implementing safe and effective natural medicine therapies to complement the current practice guidelines. Oral diseases continue to be a major health problem world-wide. Oral health is integral to general well-being and relates to the quality-of-life that extends beyond the functions of the craniofacial complex. The standard Western medicine has had only limited success in the prevention of periodontal disease and in the treatment of a variety of oral diseases. The dentist needs to be more informed regarding the use, safety and effectiveness of the various traditional medicines and over-the-counter products. Herbal extracts have been used in dentistry for reducing inflammation, as antimicrobial plaque agents, for preventing release of histamine and as antiseptics, antioxidants, antimicrobials, antifungals, antibacterials, antivirals and analgesics. They also aid in healing and are effective in controlling microbial plaque in gingivitis and periodontitis and thereby improving immunity. The 26 chapters in this unique book explore all the measures to utilize the natural oral care obtained from plants, animals and mineral drugs for dental care.

Caries and oral mucosal and periodontal diseases are the major cause of oral health problems. They are prevalent in all ages and demographic and socioeconomic groups. Irrespective of geographic location in the world, both males and females are affected from the condition. Dental caries' etiology has four main factors: bacteria, time, susceptible tooth surface, and fermentable carbohydrates. Due to the high prevalence of oral disease and increased microbial resistance against antibiotics, there is a need for alternative methods. Therefore, the search for viable alternative products is of paramount importance. Phytochemicals isolated from plants, which are used in traditional medicines, are considered to be safe and effective alternatives compared to synthetic chemicals. This situation diverted efforts toward finding natural products as the potential medicine for treating dental caries. The chapter will focus on the etiology of dental caries and different remedies using the natural resources for prevention and treatment of the disease. A wide variety of secondary metabolites in medicinal plants having in vitro antimicrobial activities provide a hope for novel drug compounds.

A comprehensive guide to natural, do-it-yourself oral care, Holistic Dental Care introduces simple, at-home dental procedures that anyone can do. Highlighted with fifty-three full-color photos and illustrations, this book offers dental self-care strategies and practices that get to the core of the problems in our mouths--preventing issues from taking root and gently restoring dental health. Based on a "whole body approach" to oral care, Holistic Dental Care addresses the limits of the traditional approach that treats only the symptoms and not the source of body imbalances. Taking readers on a tour of the ecology of the mouth, dental health expert and author Nadine Artemis describes the physiology of the teeth and the sources of bacteria and decay. Revealing the truth about the artificial chemicals in many toothpastes and mouthwashes, Artemis also discusses the harmful effects of mercury fillings and the much safer ceramic filling options that are available. Covering topics that include healthy nutrition, oral care for children, and the benefits of botanical substances and plant extracts for maintaining oral health, Artemis introduces a comprehensive eight-step self-dentistry protocol that offers an effective way to prevent decay, illness, acidic saliva, plaque build-up, gum bleeding, inflammation, and more.

Use your knowledge of pharmacology to enhance oral care! Pharmacology and Therapeutics for Dentistry, 6th Edition describes how to evaluate a patient’s health and optimize dental treatment by factoring in the drugs they take. It explores the basic fundamentals of pharmacology, special topics such as pain control, fear and anxiety, and oral complications of cancer therapy, and most importantly, the actions of specific drug groups on the human body. Whether you’re concerned about the drugs a patient is already taking or the drugs you prescribe for treatment, this book helps you reduce risk and provide effective dental care. An emphasis on the dental applications of pharmacology relates drugs to dental considerations in clinical practice. Dental aspects of many drug classes are expanded to include antibiotics, analgesics, and anesthetics. The Alternative Medicine in Dentistry chapter discusses chemicals used as alternative medicines and assesses their potential benefits and risks. The Nonopioid Analgesics chapter groups together non-opioid analgesics, nonsterioidal anti-inflammatory drugs, and antirheumatic and antigout drugs, making these easier to locate and study. Coverage of the endocrine system includes four separate chapters for the most comprehensive coverage. Drug Interactions in Clinical Dentistry appendix lists potential interactions between drugs a patient is taking for nondental conditions and drugs that may be used or prescribed during dental treatment, including effects and recommendations. Glossary of Abbreviations appendix includes the most common abbreviations used for drugs or conditions. New Pharmacogenetics and Pharmacogenomics chapter covers the effects of genetic traits of patients on their responses to drugs. A NEW introductory section offers tips for the study of dental pharmacology and relates pharmacology to dental considerations. An updated discussion of drug-drug interactions covers the harmful effects of mixing medications. Coverage of adverse effects and mechanisms of COX-2 inhibitors, antibiotic prophylaxis, and antiplaque agents explains the dental risks relating to common drug treatments.

This full-color text prepares dental professionals to promptly and proactively recognize and manage medical emergencies that may occur in the dental office. It details how to anticipate potential emergencies and what resources must be on hand to deal effectively with these situations. Algorithms located in the appendices provide step-by-step diagrams showing the decision-making process in each of several common emergency situations. PABCD boxes throughout text remind the reader of American Heart Association guidelines on Positioning, Airway, Breathing, Circulation, and Definitive management and explain the relevance of these guidelines to the topic being discussed. Chapters are organized into sections based upon types of common emergency situations. Chapter on Preparation includes an updated emergency drug and equipment kit to reflect materials that are safe and currently available on the market. Full-color drawings and updated photographs add realism to situations and equipment. With this hands-on resource, you will learn the most current methods of placing -- or assisting in the placement -- of dental materials, and how to instruct patients in their maintenance. Dental Materials uses step-by-step procedures to show how to mix, use, and apply dental materials within the context of the patient’s course of treatment. Expert authors Carol Hatrick, W. Stephan Eakle, and William F. Bird enhance this edition with four new chapters, along with coverage of newly approved materials and esthetic tools including the latest advances in bleaching and bonding. A new companion Evolve website lets you practice skills with challenging exercises! Procedure boxes include step-by-step instructions for common tasks. Procedural icons indicate specific guidelines or precautions that need to be followed for each procedure. End-of-chapter review questions help you assess your retention of material, with answers provided in an appendix. End-of-chapter case-based discussions provide a real-life application of material covered in the chapter. Clinical tips and precautions emphasize important information, advice, and warnings on the use of materials. Key terms are defined at the beginning of each chapter, bolded within the chapter, and defined in the glossary. Objectives help you focus on the information to gain from each chapter. Introductions provide an overview of what will be discussed in each chapter. Summary tables and boxes make it easy to find and review key concepts and information. Full-color photos and illustrations show dental materials and demonstrate step-by-step procedures, including new clinical photos of bleaching and bonding. New Dental Ceramics chapter addresses the growth in esthetic dentistry by discussing porcelain crowns, inlays, and veneers and the process of selecting the proper shade. New Dental Amalgam chapter discusses the use of metal — still the most commonly used material in restorative and corrective dentistry. New Casting Alloys, Solders, and Wrought Metal Alloys chapter breaks down specific types of combination metals and the procedures in which they are used. New Dental Implants chapter covers several different types of implants as well as how to instruct patients on hygiene and home care of their implant(s). The Materials Handling section reflects the new Infection Control Environment (ICE) standards and all approved ADA methods for the disposal of surplus materials. A companion Evolve website includes exercises to help you identify images and master procedures, plus competency skill sheets to assess your understanding.
