Thirty years ago, computers seemed more science fiction than business fact. Today we have e-commerce, e-marketing, computerized scheduling, manufacturing, and a whole new field called information technology. Computers now have applications for every facet of your business. Information Systems and Technology for the Non-Information Systems Executive explores the practical and efficient use of computer technology-both software and hardware-for all types of business applications. In a simple and reader friendly style Shim presents information on data bases, networking, and telecommunications. He explains popular accounting, tax, finance, management, manufacturing, and marketing software-making them easy to understand and use. In addition, he provides real-life examples that illustrate the applications of decision support systems, executive information systems, and artificial intelligence systems such as financial modeling, budgeting, strategic planning and control, forecasting, data analysis, inventory planning, and optimization software. You do not need to know programming to understand your information systems. Written for business managers and entrepreneurs who may not have extensive computer experience, Information Systems and Technology for the Non-Information Systems Executive: An Integrated Resource Management Guide for the 21st Century covers information systems in all phases and functional areas of business to help you make the best decisions. It provides a wealth of current and essential information for managers and executives of all types of organizations. Your success depends on keeping abreast of the latest applications and thinking in information technology. This book gives you the competitive edge.

The book consists of 35 extended chapters which have been based on selected submissions to the poster session organized during the 3rd Asian Conference on Intelligent Information and Database Systems (20-22 April 2011 in Daegu, Korea). The book is organized into four parts, which are information retrieval and management, data mining and computational intelligence, service composition and user-centered approach, and intelligent management and e-business, respectively. All chapters in the book discuss theoretical and practical issues related to integration of artificial intelligence and database technologies in order to develop various intelligent information systems in many different domains. Such combination of artificial intelligence and database technologies has been regarded as one of the important interdisciplinary subfields of modern computer science, due to the sustainable development of networked information systems. Especially, service-oriented architecture and global multimedia systems used on a number of different purpose call for these developments. The book will be of interest to postgraduate students, professors and practitioners in the areas of artificial intelligence and database systems to modern information environments. The editors hope that readers of this volume can find many inspiring ideas and influential practical examples and use them in their future work.

This volume contains the proceedings of the First International Conference on Advances in Information Systems (ADVIS) held in Izmir (Turkey), 25{27 October, 2000. This conference was dedicated to the memory of Professor Esen Ozkarahan. He was great researcher who made an essential contribution to the development of information systems. This conference was organized by the Computer - gineering Department of Dokuz Eylul University of Izmir. This department was established in 1994 by the founding chairman Professor Ozkarahan and there he worked for the last ve years of his live. The main goal of the conference was to bring together researchers from all around the world working in di erent areas of information systems to share new ideas and to represent their latest results. We received 80 submissions from 30 countries. The Program Committee selected 44 papers for presentation at the conference. The invited and accepted contributions cover a large variety of topics: - neral aspects of information systems, data bases, data warehousing, computer networks, Internet technologies, content-based image retrieval, information - trieval, constraint programming and arti cial intelligence. The success of the conference was dependent upon the hard work of a large number of people. We gratefully acknowledge the members of the Program C- mittee who helped to coordinate the process of refereeing all submitted papers. We also thank all the other specialists who reviewed the papers.

This book presents a scientific theory of Networked information technology (NIT) systems and logically develops the fundamental principles to help synthesize control and coordination algorithms for these systems. The algorithms described are asynchronous, distributed decision-making (ADDM) algorithms, and their characteristics include correct operation, robustness, reliability, scalability, stability, survivability, and performance. The book explains through case studies the conception, development, experimental testing, validation, and rigorous performance analysis of practical ADDM algorithms for real-world systems from a number of diverse disciplines. Practitioners, professionals, and advanced students will find the book an authoritative resource for the design and analysis of NIT systems algorithms. Topics and features: Develops a logical and practical approach to synthesizing ADDM algorithms for NIT systems Utilizes a scientific method to address the design & testing of NIT systems Incorporates case studies to clearly convey principles and real-world applications Provides a full context for engineers who design, build, deploy, maintain, and refine network-centric systems spanning many human activities Offers background on core principles underlying the nature of network-centric systems
