Author Theron Hopkins travels from sweltering summer practices to heated crosstown rivalry matchups to one of the biggest games in the country, the Texas 5A state title game, held in San Antonio’s Alamodome, witnessing thrilling wins and devastating losses along the way. Hitting twenty towns in twenty weeks, this story showcases a cross section of America seen through football, from Great Falls, Montana, where the coach borrows five hundred dollars in his own name to purchase weight-training equipment for his team, and builds them up to championship caliber; to Waldport, Oregon, where the varsity squad is just fourteen boys strong and gearing up to take on one of the toughest teams in the conference; to Massillon, Ohio, where high school football is so important that the president of the booster club puts a tiny orange football into every baby boy’s crib in the hospital. But the author also finds that the wins or losses on Friday nights are only part—and maybe not even the best part—of what makes the game so irresistible and so important to all those people who watch it, coach it, and play it. Night after night, all across America, the story uncovers the true heart and soul of high school football. Hometown Heroes depicts the journey of three NBA players from their humble beginnings. All three were born and raised in countries outside the United States, in communities of people with great need and limited opportunities. This book details how each player has used his social status to impact both his childhood community and his new surroundings in the United States. While Joel Embiid, Manute Bol, and Al Horford have achieved great notoriety for their masterful athletic skills and prowess on the basketball court, their contributions off the court are what truly sets them apart. All three have made lasting impacts in peoples' lives by assuming leadership roles in their communities. In short, they have provided opportunities and hope to those who need it most. Each chapter is written in English then translated to the most common language of the players' home countries. The translations were added to be able to share these stories with the people of these player's hometowns, as well as reach more people with these incredible stories. All profits of Hometown Heroes will be donated to Doctors Without Borders. The profits will be sent directly to its COVID-19 Crisis Fund to help people around the world suffering from the effects of the coronavirus pandemic.

Throughout the history of baseball, over 18,000 ballplayers have seen action in a major league uniform, yet only 177 men have spent their entire big league careers exclusively with a single team. Playing an entire career with one organization is an extraordinary achievement. Hometown fans have always reserved a profound respect and affection for players who have stayed with their team from start to finish. Almost to a man, these lifetime ballplayers are modest, humble, team-oriented, high character individuals. Such traits emerge so consistently in these foundational players, it is no surprise that their hometown fans maintain such a strong bond and special connection with them. The men in this select brotherhood are among the most influential and beloved players in the American Game. Within their storylines resides the essential history of big time baseball in the 20th century. Already 50 of these special players have been enshrined at Cooperstown in the National Baseball Hall of Fame, with more to come. These one-franchise major league warriors are worthy of special tribute. They have honored baseball by the respect they have shown for the game. This kind of hero is not extinct, but is an increasingly endangered species. That is even more reason to celebrate the triumph and symmetry of a long career begun and finished with a single team. Hometown Heroes pays homage to this rare and exceptional fraternity.

The stories of Veterans and the service they gave can be found in any book store because we are passionate and dedicated to the heroes who served, and to those who paid the ultimate sacrifice protecting the freedoms of their country. Hometown Heroes is especially relevant as it delves into many aspects of military life, from infrastructure, payroll, mail, and transportation, to the front lines, and personal reflections of loss suffered by some. These are the stories of military veterans in their own words. Some of the content may be deemed controversial, I prefer to say it is raw. The service given by these men and women is heroic because they served. Whether during wartime, in theater, or on base in their home country is not relevant. The potential for active duty in a war zone, as we all know, has been a constant since World War Two, and therefore all veterans in Hometown Heroes are considered heroes. In honor of the service given by all veterans, Hometown Heroes is giving back with a chapter on Veteran's Benefits, specifically the Aid and Attendance Benefit. This chapter is written by Elder Law Attorney and Navy Veteran Greg McIntyre. Greg McIntyre is a veteran of the US Navy. He served on the USS Constellation and USS Nimitz as an EC2 Hawkeye Radar Technician. Upon leaving the service, Greg went to Columbia Law School, gaining a Legal Juris Doctorate and an MBA in law. Since then he has dedicated his time and energy to Elder Law. He is passionate about helping seniors and veterans keep the assets they struggled so hard to earn over their lifetimes. 'Hometown Heroes' is Greg McIntyre's fourth book. He wrote 'Saving the Farm, A practical guide to the legal maze of aging in America, ' in 2016. He co-authored 'RockStar Lawyer' with Robert Christiansen in 2017, and has co-authored the sequel, 'Rockstar Business', again with Robert Christiansen scheduled for release sometime in 2018.
